JOB DESCRIPTION

Lighting Systems Designer – Live Events

An established global live events and production technology business is looking for a Lighting Systems Designer to join its UK Technical Delivery team.

This is a predominantly office-based technical design role, focused on designing and documenting lighting systems for temporary events and live productions. You’ll work closely with Project Managers, technical teams and onsite delivery crews, turning project requirements into safe, practical and commercially viable lighting solutions.

The Role
  • Design end-to-end lighting systems for temporary events and live productions
  • Produce detailed technical drawings, schematics, renderings, access plans and bills of materials
  • Create designs using Vectorworks, ConnectCAD and other technical design platforms
  • Develop lighting solutions covering control, networking, power distribution and rigging interfaces
  • Work closely with Project Managers and operational teams to adapt designs around budgets, equipment availability and project requirements
  • Provide technical expertise throughout planning and delivery
  • Support onsite teams with technical challenges and design alterations where required
  • Maintain high standards across technical documentation, systems planning and equipment allocation
  • Contribute to the development of technical design standards, templates, training materials and processes
  • Work with manufacturers, suppliers and procurement teams to evaluate equipment and technology
  • Conduct post-event reviews and identify improvements for future system designs
  • Maintain hands-on industry knowledge through planned onsite work and manufacturer training
About You
  • Strong technical background in lighting for temporary live events and productions
  • Extensive hands-on experience working onsite within the live events sector
  • In-depth knowledge of lighting systems, control, networking, power distribution and rigging interfaces
  • Strong working knowledge of Vectorworks and ConnectCAD
  • Experience producing CAD drawings and detailed technical documentation
  • Confident designing complete systems rather than solely operating equipment onsite
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving and systems-thinking skills
  • Comfortable collaborating with project, technical and operational teams
  • Able to manage multiple projects and technical deliverables simultaneously
This is an opportunity to move into a specialist systems design position while remaining closely connected to live event delivery. You’ll work across technically complex productions, have access to advanced manufacturer training and help shape the standards used across a wider UK technical operation.
